Windsurfing a storm

On the 3rd of this month there was some really strong winds in Netherlands and I really had to push myself not to go and try to windsurf. Then I remember that I still don't have any proper footware and smallest sail is 5.4m².

Never the less some Dutch guys did go and windsurf and now I have to try and meet them for some windsurf sessions... cause it seems some Dutch sailors are afraid of getting wet when it's cold. :)

Fireworks for 2012

I didn't write anything about the New Year's party but here is a video I found on youtube that describes rather well how great the party in Amsterdam was.

Have a great 2012 everyone!

Creation and innovation should be free

How creation evolves: Edgar Allan Poe wrote a short story in 1842, "The Masque of the Red Death", then in 1964 Roger Cormen directs a movie based on the story. A gothic band, Theater of Tragedy, releases in 1996 the album Velvet Darkness They fear (great cover by the way) with the song "And When He Falleth", that you can hear in the video bellow, with a set of dialogs between Prince Prospero and Franscesca taken from the movie.

This way the work of E.A. Poe not only live in literature but in other form of art, through out the times.

Thus does society evolve, building and rebuilding.

I know... nothing related to windsurf but it's has been really a poor month of wind so one does what one can to keep busy and entertained.

2 more hours

A after work session, starting at 18:20 and ending at sunset. Lucky lucky me. Around 20 knots, a bit gusty, some nice small waves at the Ria de Aveiro.

I have no photos or videos of yesterday but here is a nice video by Gollito at El Yaque:

At 01:01 there is a rather, how can I say it, back to the basics move.

Getting wet

A friend once told me that there is a saying about horse riding. It was something like:

A horse rider has fallen at least seven times but no more than seventy.
For windsurf I would say that there is no upper bound. A windsurfer will always fall unless he's not trying enough.

At the windsurf clinic we, the participants, were all into it, pushing what we knew and were capable of. Which, obviously, meant that we fell a lot. Unfortunately (or is it?) only some of those funny moments are registered in video.

The coach at the Windsurf Clinic @ Lanzarote 2011

I went to a windsurf clinic to see if something could be done about my bad windsurfing style.

To my surprise yes, I can be cured, with the proper training and with some coaching I might still be able to become a more or less effective windsurfer - planning early, managing to go upwind, faster and more accurate. In time I might even be able to pull out a push loop (I'm going for it...)

Anyway, for this post I just wanted to share this small video with Tom Brendt (the coach at the clinic) doing his thing. After the clinic was over he was finally rid of all the "patients" and could also score some fun.

Going to this clinic was one of the best things I could have done with the small amount of vacations I have. I feel that my windsurf skills has been pushed up quite a lot. Now I know what I was doing wrong, I understand how to fix it. Just need wind and water to practice.

I am quite sure that I'll be joining other clinics... In the meantime I'll be posting some of the pictures and some of the stories of this really nice event in future posts.
